ISAIAH 53

ISAIAH 53

I believe the last few chapters of Isaiah’s writings are pre-written history. I do not make any claims to having all the answers, because I do not have access to all the facts of history. Neither am I smart enough to know the significance of the historical facts if I did now them. Furthermore, I realize that if I SAY that the LORD SHOWED ME the things I am about to relate, there can be NO POSSIBILITY OF ERROR. I WILL NOT MAKE SUCH A CLAIM, for I know too well that I am fully as capable of being mistaken as anyone else is.

With that disclaimer, I submit to you what I THINK the Lord has shown me.

1. THE MINISTRY AND CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS
2. THE COVENANT (OF ABRAHAM) (FAITH) CONFIRMED
3. THE LAW OF MOSES ABOLISHED.
4. HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED, HIS GENERATION.

I believe that the last three verses of chapter 52 actually belong with this chapter, because they speak of His physical suffering in Gethsemane and at Calvary.

· Isa 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
· Isa 52:14 As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
· Isa 52:15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the ARM (JESUS) of the LORD revealed?

· Isa 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

· Joh 12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
· Joh 12:38 That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
· Joh 12:39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again,
· Joh 12:40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. (See Isa 6)
· Joh 12:41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; AND WHEN WE SHALL SEE HIM, THERE IS NO BEAUTY THAT WE SHOULD DESIRE HIM.

· Joh 9:28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
· Joh 9:29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

· Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
· Joh 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
· Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power (privilege) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

· Psa 22:6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
· Psa 22:7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
· Psa 22:8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, (sickness, disease) and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
· (GOOD NEWS BIBLE) Isa 53:4 But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne . All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

I am amazed at the number of times the term “Healed” is used in a manner that is NOT meaning a physical healing.

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

· Psa 22:1 , A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

· Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

On the Cross, Jesus felt for the first time in His life, what the sinful nature of mankind is like. It overwhelmed Him as the iniquity of the entire world met upon Him.

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

· Act 8:32 The place of the Scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
· Act 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison (BY OPPRESSION) and from judgment: and WHO SHALL DECLARE HIS GENERATION? for he WAS CUT OFF OUT OF THE LAND OF THE LIVING: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

· Mat 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

· PSA 22:30 A SEED SHALL SERVE HIM; IT SHALL BE ACCOUNTED TO THE LORD FOR A GENERATION

· Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall MESSIAH BE CUT OFF, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come (Titus in 70 AD) shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war DESOLATIONS ARE DETERMINED.

· (Good News Bible) Dan 9:26 And at the end of that time God's chosen leader will be killed unjustly. The city and the Temple will be destroyed by the invading army of a powerful ruler. The end will come like a flood, bringing the war and destruction which God has prepared.

· Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant (of Abraham, 2000 BC) with many for one week: AND IN THE MIDST OF THE WEEK HE SHALL CAUSE THE SACRIFICE AND THE OBLATION (LAW OF MOSES) TO CEASE, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate (70 AD), even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

· Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
· Mat 23:38 BEHOLD, YOUR HOUSE IS LEFT UNTO YOU DESOLATE.
· Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Isa 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because (ALTHOUGH) he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

· Mar 15:43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counselor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: WHEN THOU SHALT MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN, HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED, HE SHALL PROLONG HIS DAYS, AND THE PLEASURE OF THE LORD SHALL PROSPER IN HIS HAND.

Isa 53:11 He shall see (THE FRUIT) of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

· (Good News Bible) Isa 53:10 The LORD says, "It was my will that he should suffer; his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed.
· Isa 53:11 After a life of suffering, he will again have joy; he will know that he did not suffer in vain. My devoted servant, with whom I am pleased, will bear the punishment of many and for his sake I will forgive them.

· Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

· Lev 16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities (the Nature of Sin) unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

· Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

· (Weymouth) Heb 9:28 so the Christ also, having been once offered in sacrifice in order that He might bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, separated from sin, to those who are eagerly expecting Him, to make their salvation complete.

· Heb 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

· Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

· Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away (REMISSION) by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

· Lev 16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

· Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

· Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

· Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

· Rom 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

· Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

· Rom 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
