HIS FLOOR

HIS FLOOR
Matthew 3:12 Whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus, spoke these words about the coming Saviour. He was giving a little preview of what Jesus was going to do on the earth, and after His ascension, even until today.
Isa. 21:10 tells us a little more about the subject introduced by John: that of the threshing floor and the corn of it (wheat). "O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: We are the corn (wheat) and we are on the floor of the Lord. The threshing process is an on-going thing, but it WILL come to an end. Isa 28:28 The threshing is a very important part of our becoming disciples of the Lord. Without it, we never get off of "square one" in our progress with Jesus.
John told us that He would throughly purge (completely clean) His floor. No one will escape the process. Nothing unclean will get past Him.
It is on the "floor" that we find out which class we are in, and what we face in the future. There is wheat, and there is chaff. Each of us has a little of both in us today, but that will change before Jesus is finished with us. There MUST come a separation in our lives before we are suitable for God's purposes.
We are told the purpose of the purging in Isaiah 1:25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
John also told us what will happen to anything that proves to be not fit for the Kingdom. It is destined for the fire. We do not want that as our destiny.
Getting all the chaff out of my life is difficult. I can not even FIND it all, let alone get it all out.
Therefore, I must walk in REPENTANCE before God every day. I must never lose sight of the fact that His Mercy is my ONLY HOPE. Whatever goodness I may possess is hopelessly inadequate.
Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: --HUMILITY, LOVE, COMPASSION, GODLINESS.
But the thought of purging His Floor has a deeper meaning than the individual application. It is telling me that JESUS INTENDS TO CLEAN UP HIS CHURCH before it is all said and done. Matthew 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend--
We need not fret about the bad things we see in the Church and world today. Jesus is fully capable of taking care of it all. AND HE WILL. Our job is to get the chaff out of OUR OWN LIVES. Didn't Jesus mention a "beam" and a "mote" one day?
